disparity (noun) difference (usually an unfair one).

A disparity of wages is a difference in the wages between two persons, or two groups, for the same kind of work, which obviously is unfair. An unequal treatment is disparity. A disparity in the ages of a wife and a husband is the wide age gap between the spouses. The disparity between the rich and the poor is the unfair difference between their incomes and statuses.

  • The economic disparity between the two nations became more pronounced with trade barriers between them ended, because one of them was highly industriously developed whereas the other was just beginning to develop.
  • All persons are born equal and the disparities among the statuses of the persons are artificial and man-made.
