distrait (adj) absentminded; inattentive.

When you think of something else and so are not able to concentrate on the work on hand or think of a matter now, you are distrait. You are absentminded or inattentive to what is going on now. If you are distrait your mind is too full of something else and you are not able to concentrate on what concerns you now.

  • The beauty of the doll young Susan saw on her way to school made her so distrait that she was totally inattentive in the class.
  • Full with the memories of the country trek with his girlfriend Ann, Joe was too distrait to concentrate on his work in the bank that morning, and made a number of mistakes in the calculations.
