diurnal (adj) happening in the daytime; daily.

The diurnal motion of the sun is the daily movement of the sun from the east to the west during the day. The diurnal routine of a person is the person's regular daytime tasks. Most birds are diurnal in that they are active during the day and rest at night. So are most animals.

  • With her moving to forest area Susan's diurnal tasks such as minding the farm and the kitchen allowed her very little time for shopping.
  • Snakes and most other reptiles are not diurnal creatures, as they go for their prey during nights.
