document (verb) record something; prove or support something with documents.

When you document something, say, an event or an occasion, you write down details of it, take photographs of it, film it or televise it, to record it. You document a meeting or a conference when you record it in writing, film it, etc.. A doctor documents the progress of their patients when they maintain written records of the causes of the disease, the treatment given, the patient's response, etc.. When you provide a written evidence of something, you document your evidence. When you take acknowledgement in writing of something you have delivered to some person, your delivery of it is documented.

  • The organizers documented every event of the convention. The proceedings were recorded, photographed, and televised.
  • The letter Sam wrote to Susan, and the records of their phone conversations document their connections and prove the affair between the two.
