domicile (noun) home; place of residence.

Your domicile is your home, your place of residence, officially recognized as such. 'Though his domicile is London, he has spent a long time in New York.' This means that his home as officially recorded is London but he has lived away from it for many long years.

  • The police have not been able to trace Philip, as he has not visited for a long time his last known domicile, Washington, where he was born and lived up to his college days.
  • Though his domicile is New York, he has hardly lived there, because as a high flying manager he has been sent on a number of assignments to places abroad where he has had to spend at least a year each.
