duplicity (noun) dishonesty; deception.

Duplicity is just deception. A person capable of duplicity is able to cheat others, by lying. You say one thing and do the opposite, that is, you lie to cheat others, if you practice duplicity.

  • Abraham tried his best to correct his son's duplicity. He had to give up his attempts, however, as he realized that his son could never learn to be honest.
  • The duplicity with which the President handled the scandal in which his son was involved irked the public and eventually the president was forced to resign.
