The waves of the sea, or the tide ebbs as it recedes or moves backwards into the sea. Anything that becomes less and less ebbs. The enthusiasm that people have for something in the beginning ebbs as time passes. That is, people become less and less enthusiastic about it, as time goes on. Your fever ebbs when it decreases.
