embezzlement (noun) stealing from the place of the work or from the employerís funds.

An employee faces the complaint of embezzlement if they steal money of the organization in which they work if they steal money belonging to the organization or that of the employer. An embezzlement of public funds is stealing government money, some times by changing the figures in the accounts.

  • The chief accountant of Morton was found guilty of embezzlement on a large scale to hide which he cooked up accounts, and burnt books which could show the actual amount he had stolen.
  • A preliminary investigation into the Trustís records indicated embezzlement of Trustís funds by the trustees, who had had the accounts manipulated so that their stealing could not be detected.
