embryonic (adj) undeveloped; in the early stages of growth.

When a plant or an animal is at an early stage of growth or is not fully developed, it is in its embryonic stage. A concept which is yet to take a final shape is in its embryonic stage. When a project is in its initial stages of planning it is still embryonic.

  • The construction of a spacecraft to land on Mars and other planets is still in its embryonic stage, as the plans and designs are still on the drawing boards.
  • One cannot distinguish the limbs of the human fetus in its embryonic stage, though a scan show the gender of the child.
