emend (verb) correct, usually a text.
When changes are made in the text of a book, to correct parts of it, especially before being printed, it is emended. Shakespearean scholars after a lot of research emended the badly preserved texts of his plays and made them almost error free. Emending is needed in the case of very old books which have not been preserved properly, and also in writings before they are printed. For then only correct texts.
- The author emended the spellings of the characters in his novel to avoid any controversy involving those people living or dead.
