An eminent person is a famous person whom many people admire and respect. A person who is very well known especially in a profession or an occupation is eminent. An eminent scientist is a reputed scientist, highly respected for his achievement. An eminent painter is a famous painter. A high position in any field is an eminent position. The president of a country occupies a high position, so his or hers is an eminent position.

  • Bernoulli was an eminent mathematician of his times and the series he created is named Bernoulliís series.
  • Newton was an eminent physicist. A first class experimenter and good interpreter of the observations he made, in addition to being a biblical scholar.
