emulate (verb) imitate; equal.

When you try to emulate a person you try to be as good at something as they are, because you admire them. A person you emulate is a person whom you admire and therefore try to be as great as they, by following their methods. You imitate them to become their equal. Many young tennis stars may try to emulate the all time greats in tennis.

  • Post Second World War, Japan has developed so much that many third world and some advanced countries emulate it and try to develop as fast as it has.
  • Emulating his fatherís style of writing, he has lost his originality and creativity in his writing, which could have made him greater than his father.
