When a superior enjoins a subordinate to do something, the superior very firmly orders the subordinate to do it. When a court enjoins a firm to close down its factory because of the pollution it is causing, it orders the firm strongly to close it down. The Bible enjoins you to avoid violence; that is, it desires strongly that you forsake violence.

  • The court had enjoined the company to pay damages to the injured worker, and as the company failed to obey the court order it was charged with contempt of court.
