epilogue (noun) the conclusion of a play, a novel or any work of literature.
The epilogue is necessarily the end part of a play, novel, etc. It brings to a neat close the play, if it is properly written. It is usually spoken by one of the characters in the play or the novel. It gives us an insight into the mind of the author.
- In some of the plays of Shakespeare the clown speaks the epilogue, which, while concluding the play, provides us with an idea of the working of the authorís mind.
- The suspense in the play gripped the audience so strongly that they did not stir in their seats till the epilogue was said.
