epithet (noun) a word or a phrase describing a person or a thing.

In the phrase, “a pleasant evening,” “pleasant” describes the evening, so “pleasant” is an epithet. “Susan is a woman of sacrificial nature.” In this sentence, “of sacrificial nature” describes Susan, so the phrase, “of sacrificial nature,” is an epithet.

  • It is really amusing that just because of his wealth and influence, people who expect favors from his shower epithets like, “wise,” and “smart” on him.
  • The policy of the government seems discriminatory but if we study it properly we understand that it is not proper to apply the epithet, “racist” to it.
