errant (adj) (old) wandering; (modern) doing something that is wrong.

An errant knight of the olden days was one who wandered in search of adventure with the mission of establishing justice. A person doing something wrong is errant. An errant child misbehaves and needs to be correct. An errant young man is a wayward young man straying from the right path. An errant parent is one who accepts no responsibility for their child’s welfare.

  • In the mediaeval times the knights errant used to go in search of adventure, and often were credited with rescuing women in distress.
  • The wife spotted her husband with another woman. His errant nature forced her to sue for an immediate divorce.
