The habits, attitudes, ideas, beliefs etc., of a particular group of a society or an individual are the ethos of the group or of the person. The American ethos is the habits, attitudes, etc., that are special to the people of the US. Marxism is totally unacceptable to the American ethos; that is, American attitude is totally against Marxism; it is impossible for them to think of state ownership of resources.
