extrude (verb) force or push out; shape metal or plastic by pushing it through a hole.

When you force or push something out of a hole you extrude it. When you push a cylinder out of its casing you extrude it. Lava gushing out of a volcano is extruded from it. When metal or plastic is pushed through a hole of a particular shape to make it get that shape, it is extruded.

  • The piston extruded the gelatinous substance through the hole which formed an outlet for it.
  • Molten steel or plastic is extruded through dies of various shapes designed for specific needs in industry.
