factitious (adj) artificial.

Anything artificial and imitative of a natural thing is factitious. Factitious feelings are not sincere feelings but pretended. Factitious tears are the tears of pretence of sorrow.

  • Factitious flowers are the exact copies of natural flowers and it is often difficult to tell the natural ones from the man-made ones, unless one feels them and smells them.
  • Factitious expression of good feelings is the trait of hypocrites who are good at hiding their real feelings and misleading others.
