fanaticism (noun) extreme beliefs, especially political or religious.

Too strong a belief in one's religion or political ideology and intolerance of other religions or ideologies is fanaticism. Fanaticism fills a person with irrational hatred of other religions and other parties than their own. A person with fanaticism has a blind belief in the virtues of their own religion or party. They feel that the other systems have no right to exist.

  • A good number of wars and clashes are the result of religious fanaticism which has so far claimed millions of lives and a great loss of property.
  • Fanaticism is the undesirable outgrowth of one's faith in their religion or ideology. All religions preach nonviolence and it is ironical that people develop fanaticism and resort to violence in the name of religion.
