feral (adj) (of animals) untamed; wild.

Feral animals are animals which become wild and live wild, especially after being domesticated for some time as pets. If a cat brought up as a pet, and then abandoned by its master, lives wild, or becomes wild, it is feral. Dogs which revert to their wild ways after being pets for a time are feral.

  • An animal leaving its domesticity and becoming feral takes time to adjust to wildlife.
  • Once an animal becomes feral, and starts living wild, it cannot become as wild as the animals which have not at all been domesticated and have been wild from the beginning.
