A complete and embarrassing failure is a fiasco. A fiasco causes terrible disappointment. If the party you hold turns out a failure, with only a few of the invitees attending it, your party is a fiasco. When the government of a country loses vote for its proposition in its parliament, it suffers a fiasco. A disgraceful defeat in an election is a fiasco.
