finicky (adj) fussy; needing great care and attention.

You are finicky when you are too worried about or too particular about the unimportant things you like or dislike. You are finicky about food if you are too particular about your having an item of food or not, about it being cooked or not cooked the way you want it. A person is finicky in matters of dress if they show too much importance to small and unimportant detail of the dress. A finicky job is a delicate job requiring great care and attention. Eye surgery can be a finicky job, as handling the eye needs great care and attention.

  • The old man is too finicky about how youngsters should talk and behave in the presence of elders like him, so youngsters usually avoid him, unable to bear his faultfinding.
