fledgling (adj) (of a person, organization, or a system) new and lacking experience.

A fledgling company is a newly formed company having no experience of business. A fledgling university or college is a newly established institution and still in its developing stage. A fledgling lawyer, doctor, or poet is still new to their occupations and have little experience.

  • Though the college, in the second year of its existence, is still in its fledgling stage, it has made a name for itself and is attracting a number of students from far and near.
  • The fledgling surgeon, into the profession just a few months ago, is naturally cautious about undertaking major surgeries independently.
