forbear (noun) ancestor (used usually in plural).

A member of your family usually a number of generations ago is your forbear. A person you are descended from, especially one who lived in the long past, is your forbear. All ancestors of a family are its forbears.

  • On knowing that his forbears were of Germany, Schmidt journeyed all the way to Munich in the suburbs of which he found his ancestral home where they had lived.
  • Geneticists are of the firm belief that the genetic code of forbears is bound to replicate even in the distant descendants.
