foresight (noun) ability to imagine future.

You have foresight if you have the ability to make proper guesses about future and plan accordingly. A lack of foresight is the inability to imagine or anticipate future, and plan to provide for the difficulties likely to arise. If you have foresight you make plans to meet the future situation and overcome any difficulty. When the government anticipates the rise of unemployment in the country and makes plans to prevent it, it acts with foresight.

  • The city planners had the foresight to leave a lot of open spaces and make provision for increased water and power supply to meet the needs of the increased population in future.
  • Jeremy smith had the foresight to make enough provision for his old age needs by regular savings and now leads a worry-free retired life.
