forsake (verb) abandon.
When you forsake someone or something, you abandon it or them. That is, you leave them or it uncared for, just when they need your help or care. Our belief is that God never forsakes us. That is, God will never leave us helpless. When you give up something, especially a thing which you enjoy, you forsake it; that is, you sacrifice it. The head of a family may forsake all their pleasures for the sake of their dependants. That is, they may deny themselves their personal pleasures for the sake of their dependants.
