fracas (noun) noisy quarrel.

When there is a fracas there is a noisy quarrel involving a large number of people, that too in public. A fracas is a brawl. When several people are hurt in a fracas, they are hurt in a violent and noisy fight. When you are involved in a noisy argument which may lead to a fight, you are in a fracas.

  • A fracas resulting in a few deaths, and many sustaining injuries began as a minor argument between a shopkeeper and a customer.
  • Stones flew freely and blows exchanged in a fracas between the two communities at the busiest square in the city.
