gale (noun) very strong wind/windstorm.

Storms and cyclones are accompanied by a very strong wind blowing with great force and at great speed. Such a wind is a gale. The force of air during a gale can be very destructive and can even blow ships off their course. Fierce winds which can sweep even huge things off their bases are gales.

  • The Meteorological Department has forecast stormy weather all along the coast with a gale blowing at a speed of more than 60 miles per hour. Fishermen have been warned against venturing into the sea.
  • Fred's slenderly built beach cottage was blown off by the gale during the tornado the last year.
