gall (verb) irritate; anger.
When you irritate a person you gall them. When an incident annoys a person, it galls them. Something that a person thinks is unfair galls him if because of it, he is bitter and unhappy. Someone's blaming you for their failure galls you as it annoys you and you think it is unfair to you. It galls you to apologize to someone for no fault of yours, that is, it upsets you. Someone else getting the credit for what you have done upsets you; that is, it galls you.
