gaunt (adj) very thin (the looks of a person).

A person who looks very thin especially because of illness, hunger, or constant worry is gaunt. A gaunt figure is a thin and hungry-looking or worried person. A gaunt building or a hill is a plain and unattractive building or rock, unpleasant to look at.

  • His once plump and healthy looks were gone and Charlie was now gaunt because of his prolonged illness.
  • His gaunt appearance was due to lack of proper food and days of worry on account of his no hope of recovery from illness.
