gibe (verb) taunt; mock.

When you gibe at a person you mock at them by pointing out their mistakes and weaknesses. You make them look silly by showing that they have failed to be or to do something that they have claimed to be or to do. You gibe at people when you mention their failures in a mocking way and try to make them appear silly or foolish.

  • The atheist that he is, Johnson often gibed that the God in whom his wife had so much faith, had not come to her rescue when she was in deep trouble.
  • The boss is the gibing type. He gibes at the small lapses of his staff by pointing out that in spite of their high qualifications, they are ignorant of very small things.
