gloat (verb) express evil pleasure.

When you gloat over something, you feel happy about your own success, and more about someone else's failure. You gloat when you feel happy about your rival's disappointment or failure rather than about your success. That is, you show happiness more about your rival's failure than about your accomplishments. You gloat because of your envy.

  • Baron gloated over the fact that if he did not reach the finals of the tennis match, his rival in the first round could not make it to the finals either. He was satisfied that his rival was knocked off in the second round itself.
  • Jim Shutters gloated over the arrest of his rival in the elections. He was happy that his rival who defeated him is behind the bars.
