SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

grimace (noun) twisting and turning of face to show dislike, or in pain.

You make a grimace when you twist your face to show your dislike for somebody or something, or as an expression of your pain and suffering. Children usually make grimaces at their teachers, elders, or classmates, to show their disgust or dislike. We give a grimace when we are in pain or experience suffering. That is, we twist our face and mouth in all kinds of shapes.

  • In the zoo, the boy gave a grimace in imitation of the ape, and the ape observing the boy twisting and distorting his face, returned the grimace.
  • As her finger was crushed between the doors, the girl twisted her face and mouth in a grimace of pain.
