Heresy is having opinions different from those of your religion, or those accepted by the society of which you are a member. If your opinions, beliefs, attitudes, etc., are different from those of your religion or society, your having such opinions, attitudes, etc., is heresy. Heresy, at least in the olden days was not tolerated.
- The Roman Catholic Church in the Middle Ages was intolerant of heresy. Anyone differing with its opinions and beliefs was persecuted and punished by being burnt alive.
- Joan of Arc of France's claims that she heard the voices of God was considered heresy by the Church of the times, and she was punished for it by being burnt at the stake. It was against the Catholic faith for anyone to claim to hear God's voices.
