Hibernal is usually used with reference to the hibernation of animals during the winter. Hibernal sleep is the long sleep-like state into which animals fall during the winter. Polar bears and certain rodents, especially in cold countries go into this kind of winter sleep, or hibernal sleep. Hibernal activity is the lack of activity or the sleep-like activity of the animals during the winter.

  • The hibernal sleep of animals is one of the mysteries of natural science because how they survive without food during their long sleep is a real wonder.
  • The hibernal sleep is preceded by the animals' overeating which provides them with enough fat to stay warm during the winter.
