hurtle (verb) move or throw with great force and at great speed.

When some thing, especially something very heavy or big hurtles, it moves in a particular direction at a frightening speed. When you hurtle something you throw it with great force so that it moves or falls down at great speed. When a car hurtles towards you, it moves towards you at great speed.

  • Following a slight tremor of the earth that night, a huge boulder hurtled down the hill and rested across the road, blocking the traffic for hours.
  • Because of the drizzle the path up the mountain was slippery, and Jack slipped and hurtled down the hill. Fortunately, he escaped with only minor injuries.
