imbalance (noun) lack of balance; lack of proper proportion in the components of a thing.

An imbalance between imports and exports is a lack of proper proportion between the two; one being more than the other and causing economic problems, affecting the profits of a company or the economy of a country. An imbalance between income and expenditure is the income being less than the expenditure and thus causing trouble.

  • An imbalance in our diet caused by a lack of proportion in our intake of proteins, carbohydrates, fats, etc., may lead to severe health problems.
  • An imbalance resulting from imports exceeding exports may cause trade deficit and loss to a country.
