immobility (noun) lack of movement; inability to move.

The immobility of a truck is its inability to move perhaps because of a break down. The incapacity to move about is immobility. A bedridden person is in a state of immobility because they lack the ability to move about or out of bed. If the transport system breaks down, we experience immobility, that is, we are unable to move from one place to another.

  • The immobility caused by paralysis has confined Mr. Smith to bed. He needs assistance even for simple movements.
  • Our business needs the constant supervision of my father. He is all the time in the shop and cannot move out. This immobility of his deprives him of even a day off to a holiday spot.
