immure (verb) shut up in a place.

When you immure a person you shut them up in a place from where they cannot get out. You immure someone if you confine them in a place without allowing them to go out as long as you like.

  • She immured her son for a few hours everyday to make him study and prepare himself for the exams.
  • A few days before the elections, he immured, in his beach cottage, his rival candidate so that he cannot have the chance of meeting the voters and canvassing for votes.
