impalpable (adj) beyond the senses.
A thing that is impalpable is impossible to touch or feel physically. Anything impalpable can be understood or noticed only by the mind. For example, kindness is something that is noticed or felt, or recognized by our mind. It cannot be touched or seen. So it is impalpable. Anything imperceptible or intangible is impalpable. All abstract things which we can only imagine but cannot see, touch, or feel with our hands are impalpable. A shadow is impalpable as it lacks substance.
- Ghosts, spirits, visions, etc., if at all we believe in them, are impalpable. They lack substance and we can neither feel them physically nor touch them as we touch an object, say a pen or a book.
- The mist was there, but it was so thin and almost so impalpable that we could nether touch it nor feel its moisture immediately.
