impassable (adj) (of a road, path, etc.,) impossible to travel through or along.

A road, path, or an area is impassable if, for some reason, it is impossible to travel along or through it. A desert on a hot midday is impassable as it is impossible to travel through it in the hot sun. A dense jungle is impassable as the dense growth of trees, bushes, and shrubs make walking through it impossible.

  • Because of the heavy landslips the mountain road is impassable and a number of people stranded above the road blocks caused by the landslips have to be airlifted.
  • The dusty road to the countryside is impassable during the rainy season, as it then becomes too slushy for safe driving.
