impenetrable (adj) that cannot be pierced/entered/passed through/seen through.

An impenetrable armor is an armor that cannot be pierced by any sharp weapon. An impenetrable jungle is a jungle which you cannot enter or pass through because of the thick growth of trees, bushes, and shrubs in it. An impenetrable fort is one which the enemy cannot enter because it is very strongly built and a large army guards it. An impenetrable language is written in a style that makes it very difficult to understand it. For example, the professional language of the lawyers is impenetrable, that is, we find it very difficult to understand it.

  • The tropical rain forests are no longer impenetrable because of massive deforestation. One can easily walk or even drive through the forests now because a large number of trees are being felled indiscriminately.
  • The body of the great Greek warrior Achilles was made impenetrable when, as soon as he was born, his mother, holding him by his heel, dipped him in a magic liquid. No arrow could pierce his body. He could be killed only if he was hit in the heel.
