imperceptible (adj) unnoticeable.

When a change is imperceptible, it is unnoticeable. We do not or cannot notice it because it is small. An imperceptible rise in temperature is an unnoticeable rise because the rise is so little. A slight change in speed, small enough not to be felt, is imperceptible. Imperceptible arrogance in a person is arrogance which they have but cannot be noticed. 'Her smile was imperceptible.' This means that she smiled so little that it was unnoticeable.

  • Though in the beginning the change in Benny's attitude to his wife was imperceptible, it could no longer be overlooked as the months passed. She was now sure that he was not the Benny of the first few months of their marriage.
  • The change in Karl's behavior in the beginning was imperceptible, but as his intake of drugs increased, people could not miss the abnormality of his conduct.
