imperial (adj) of an empire or of an emperor.

An imperial power is a country which has a number of other countries under its rule. Imperial Rome refers to Rome which had under its rule a number of countries which were a part of its empire. The imperial power of Rome extended up to Egypt; That is, Rome had under its rule all the countries up to Egypt. A member of an imperial family is the member of the family of the emperor.

  • Britain, during the 19th and the 20th centuries, was the largest imperial power in the history of this planet, with its empire extending over half of the world.
  • Preparations were made on a grand scale for the visit of the member of the imperial family; the visiting prince was none another than the brother of the emperor.
