The implication of someone's actions or words is what they hint at or indirectly suggest without stating it openly. When a person says that of the two men A and B, A is good, the implication is that B is not as good as A, or that B is not good at all. We can understand this though it is not said in so many words. When a person who you call at does not talk to you, the implication is that they do not like your visit. From their silence you can understand that, without their stating it. Their dislike of you is the implication of their silence. The implications of a decision or an action are its consequences or its possible effects on a situation. The implications of a reduction of wages of the workers are that they may not work to their full capacity and they may become insincere. The implications of interracial marriages are not easy to imagine; that is, we cannot easily understand the effects of such a marriage. One's implication in a crime is their involvement in the crime. The police found his implication in the crime; this means that they found that he had something to do with the crime.

  • The implication of the speaker's frequent references to his achievements and to his connections with bigwigs abroad was that he should be appointed ambassador to some country.
  • The rise in the rate of inflation may be slight, but its implications for the economy are likely to serious. It will trigger a further rise in prices which may hit the common person.
