When you impugn a statement, you challenge its correctness. When you impugn a personís honesty, you doubt it. You dispute a personís right to something, if you impugn it. You impugn a personís bravery or honesty when you doubt it.
- The senatorís speech impugned the honesty of the Government in awarding a company the contract for defense supplies. He complained that people in power had been bribed for the award of the contract.
