incandescent (adj) bright when heated.

When a substance gives out bright light or shines when burnt, it is incandescent. Some gases give out a very bright flame when they burn. Such a flame is an incandescent flame. Incandescent lamps are those which make use of substances that burn giving out brilliant light. When a person is furious, we say that his face is incandescent with rage.

  • The incandescent flame from the naphtha lamps illuminated the hall of the palace very brilliantly.
  • Emile’s face was incandescent with rage when she was told that she had not been included in the team.
