incarnation (noun) period during which, according to some religions, a human being lives as a human being or animal.

Period, as some religions believe, during which a living being lives as a particular human being or animal. When you believe, for example, that you were a scientist in an earlier birth, you believe you were the scientistís incarnation in your previous birth. A human form of a particular quality is incarnation. A person is the incarnation of generosity if they are very generous. The incarnation of Christ is the belief of Christians that God came down to earth in the human form of Jesus Christ.

  • Some great theologians including Pythagoras of ancient Greece believe in the theory of incarnation, that is, a living being having a number of births before the present birth, and after death.
  • An important aspect of Hinduism is its belief that the soul, in the cycle of births and deaths a living being is subject to, assumes a number of living forms.
