incongruity (noun) strangeness; combination of two incompatible things.

Incongruity is seen if an old person in old fashioned clothes is found among youngsters sporting trendy clothes. If something or some person is out of place in a particular situation, it results in incongruity. Incongruity between word and deed is a personís deeds being different from his words. Incongruity is seen in a young boy of about ten years of age speaking high philosophy and trying to preach morals to elders. An old man in jeans and fancy shirt doing the rock is incongruity. A combination of two odd things incongruity.

  • The incongruity in the movie scene was English men and women dressed in 18th century costumes speaking 21st century American slang.
  • Some how the sorrowful and wailing voice of an old woman in the midst of the laughter of happy people in such a beautiful building in the calm surroundings resulted in incongruity.
